ADVA Optical Networking Brings Ethernet Ring Protection Switching to FSP 150 Family
Martinsried/Munich, Germany. November 6, 2012. ADVA Optical Networking announced today the availability of Ethernet Ring Protection Switching (ERPS) on its FSP 150 family. The ITU-T standard, also known as G.8032v2, provides sub 50 millisecond protection and recovery switching, ensuring highest reliability for ring-based Carrier Ethernet infrastructures. Fully configured to support IEEE Connectivity Fault Management (802.1ag), the FSP 150 family now features robust fast failure detection, protection and advanced multi-vendor interoperability."We're continuously listening to our customers, continuously refining our products to deliver what our customers need," said Christoph Glingener, CTO, ADVA Optical Networking. "The introduction of ERPS is a clear reflection of this. Our engineers have worked hard to ensure that our ERPS is simple to configure, robust and capable of multi-vendor interoperability. Carrier networks depend heavily on survivable ring topologies, and we have taken this functionality to the next level."The FSP 150 family with ERPS now enables business Ethernet and mobile backhaul service providers to aggregate subrate Gigabit Ethernet services onto Gigabit or even 10 Gigabit Ethernet protected rings using a drop-and-continue architecture. A robust quality of service mechanism operates independently on add/drop and transit traffic, guaranteeing that service level agreements are met. The FSP 150 family uses a standard protocol for multi-vendor interoperability and supports point-to-point and multipoint services."Carrier Ethernet has started to rapidly replace SONET/SDH technology and is conquering more and more segments of carrier infrastructure," commented Michael Howard, co-founder and principal analyst, Infonetics Research. "I learned long ago that service providers like rings for their resiliency and lower port count advantages. As Ethernet replacements of SONET/SDH have gathered pace, operator desire for access rings have correspondingly grown. Providers will want to evaluate ADVA Optical Networking's ERPS technology, since it is an uncomplicated and multi-vendor interoperable approach to ring protection, something that the market clearly wants."

MegaPath Continues To Lead In Ethernet Connectivity With Launch Of Extended Ethernet Service
Pleasanton, Calif. – MegaPath Corporation, one of the leading providers of managed data, voice, security and hosted IT services in North America, today announced the launch of its extended Ethernet service, which expands the reach of MegaPath’s leading Business Ethernet access to customers in areas where Ethernet over Copper (EoC) service is unavailable. With this launch, MegaPath’s Business Ethernet services now reach more organizations needing connectivity to support VoIP, Internet access and MPLS/VPN network requirements.MegaPath’s extended Ethernet service currently reaches close to one million businesses in 25 key markets including Phoenix, New York City, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. In Phoenix, the number of businesses now reached by MegaPath Ethernet services has tripled. The extended Ethernet service provides the same speeds regardless of its distance from the Central Office (CO), making it an excellent option for businesses located in outlying areas.“Ethernet is ideal for businesses seeking a cost-effective, high-performance access solution to support their bandwidth-intensive applications, and MegaPath is leading the way in our nationwide deployments,” said Dan Foster, President, Business Markets, MegaPath. “With the broadest Ethernet footprint in North America, MegaPath is continuing to invest in an aggressive Ethernet build out, which now extends the reach of Ethernet service to even more business customers. As businesses recognize the need for increased bandwidth at lower prices, MegaPath is the only provider proactively addressing their critical business requirements.”MegaPath’s Business Ethernet services provide organizations with high-bandwidth, reliable and cost-effective alternatives to more expensive access solutions. Business Ethernet services offer more resiliency by using loop bonding technology that ensures if one loop in a bundle fails, the remaining circuits will continue to function. Backed by MegaPath’s Secure to the CoreTM MPLS network, the services also enable users to gain the competitive advantages offered by the company’s Quality of Service (QoS) capabilities when supporting bandwidth-intensive and performance-critical applications.MegaPath recently completed its 2012 Ethernet over Copper expansion project, solidifying its position as the largest EoC provider in the United States. MegaPath plans to continue investing in its Ethernet network and will announce new Ethernet capabilities in early 2013. For more information on MegaPath’s Ethernet services.
