Kaiam to demo 10x10G 100G DWDM CFP at OFC/NFOEC
Kaiam Corp., which leverages hybrid photonic integrated circuit (PIC) technology to create optical components and modules, says it will demonstrate a new 100-Gbps DWDM CFP transceiver at OFC/NFOEC 2012 in Los Angeles March 6-8. The CFP transceiver has all the capabilities of 10 DWDM EML-based XFPs on a 100-GHz-spaced ITU grid and includes a first-stage wavelength multiplexer and demultiplexer, according to the company. The DWDM CFP is designed for customization. On the transmitter side, the output wavelengths can be modified by selecting different subcomponents to match user requirements in banded architectures. Meanwhile, by switching from PIN diodes to APDs on the receiver side, the modules can be made fully compatible with the 40-km specification of the 10x10 MSA. Linear TIAs on the receiver can be useful in applications where EDC on the host card extends the reach to beyond 80 km, the company adds. The 100-Gbps module follows on from the 40-Gbps QSFP+ LR4 transceiver Kaiam showed at last year’s OFC/NFOEC, which is in volume production and shipping to multiple customers, the company adds. The CFP uses the same optical alignment technology as the 40G device. The 10 channels are tuned to the ITU grid at 100-GHz spacing using a thermo-electric cooler. The use of a CFP module saves about two-thirds the space of 10 XFPs and offers significant cost savings, Kaiam asserts. The modules are now available as samples; volume production is planned for July 2012.Kaiam Vice President of Engineering Thomas Schrans said, “For many applications, DWDM XFPs or even the newly introduced DWDM SFP+ have too much granularity, are too big, and are too costly. Our DWDM CFP, on the other hand, adds 10 channels at a time with higher density and at lower cost. Four different units can be combined with a band-mux to give 400 Gbps in the fiber, making it fully compatible with the presently deployed 10-Gbps infrastructure. With only four part numbers, tunability is not critical for managing inventory.”
Cross River Fiber Completes the Construction of an Express Fiber Route Between Carteret and Newark, New Jersey; The New Network Between 1400 Federal Boulevard and 165 Halsey Is the Shortest Commercially Available Fiber Route
Cross River Fiber, a New Jersey-based, boutique dark fiber optic and telecommunications solutions provider, announces the completion of the shortest commercially available fiber network route between 1400 Federal Boulevard in Carteret and 165 Halsey Street in Newark, New Jersey. This newly constructed network represents the most diverse and shortest linear fiber distance, which is 23.25 kilometers, between two key carrier hotels servicing the financial services markets.Cross River Fiber is a niche CLEC provider that designs, constructs and manages carrier independent dark fiber routes throughout the State of New Jersey. The new fiber network between Carteret and Newark is the first completed route of Cross River Fiber's ultra low latency dark fiber network currently under construction in the Garden State."This new network footprint is the shortest and most diverse route between two important datacenter buildings servicing the financial services community," comments Vincenzo Clemente, CEO of Cross River Fiber. "The completion of this first route illustrates the strength of our network design and construction capabilities. The fiber network we are constructing will provide the financial services, government, education and healthcare sectors throughout the State of New Jersey the highest quality network solutions available in the market.""The demand for high-quality, ultra low latency connectivity continues to grow," adds Mike Sevret, EVP and Chief Strategy Officer of Cross River Fiber. "The high bandwidth needs of businesses will continue as the use of large bandwidth, cloud networking and regulatory requirements drive the demands for diverse, low latency solutions. Cross River Fiber's mission is to construct and deliver commercially available network services to meet the needs of businesses in the New Jersey market."This first completed route represents Cross River Fiber's founding principals, to serve the specific needs of companies requiring custom designed, diverse, and alternative high bandwidth fiber optic solutions. Additional routes under construction include new network paths to major datacenters in Edison, Piscataway, Somerset, Secaucus, Weehawken, Nutley, Clifton, and Rochelle Park, New Jersey and to enterprise campuses throughout the State.
AppliedMicro Provides Industry's First 100G OTN Hybrid Switching Device; Latest OTN processor from SoftSilicon line enables Terabit-per-second Packet-Optical Transport Systems for aggregation of IP packet and TDM services
Applied Micro Circuits Corp., or AppliedMicro (Nasdaq: AMCC), today announced the TPO415/C415 as the industry's first standard Optical Transport Network (OTN) multiplexer to enable 100 Gigabit-per-second OTU4 linecards. As the latest addition to its portfolio of OTN processors, AppliedMicro's TPO415/C415 improves Internet capacity by 10X and addresses growing demand to facilitate the switching of any client and any rate traffic in Terabit-per-second Packet-Optical Transport Systems (P-OTS). The company will demonstrate the 100G multiplexer during the Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exhibition/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference ( OFC/NFOEC ), from March 4-8 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The TPO415/C415 addresses the emerging market for OTN and Packet switching Packet-Optical Transport Systems that are rolling out over the next two years. During this period network providers and vendors of transport systems will introduce a new OTN networking layer that will complement the IP layer and replace SONET/SDH to enhance the capacity and efficiency of the Internet by several orders of magnitude. In addition to IP transport, the new OTN layer will transport more specialized services such as Fibre Channel and video and allow for migration away from old SONET/SDH networks."AppliedMicro is first to market with a standard 100G multiplexer for hybrid OTN and packet switching systems," said Lars Pedersen, Chief Technology Officer of AppliedMicro TPACK A/S. "TPO415/C415 is future-proof because it is adaptable in meeting ever-changing customer requirements and evolving industry standards. It is supplied with the industry's most advanced Applications Programming Interface and a hardware reference design is available to help network system developers with rapid deployment of 100G systems. AppliedMicro provides the safest path to 100G P-OTS systems with advanced technology backed by our market-leading presence and experience."The TPO415/C415 contains a flexible OTU4 multiplexer with support of any size and combination of ODU0/1/2/3/4 and ODUflex containers. The device offers a 100G capacity ODU Segmentation And Reassembly (SAR) engine compliant with OIF-IA standards. It also offers a 100G capacity ODUk/ODUflex packet mapper for support of hybrid OTN and packet switching. Additionally, an advanced software Application Programming Interface provides large efficiency for software integration. AppliedMicro offers the most comprehensive portfolio in the OTN space with a combination of SoftSilicon® and HardSilicon(TM) solutions. TPO415/C415 is the newest part of this portfolio that covers all applications and allows optimization for any capacity need.
