PacketLight Networks unveils universal transponder
Optical transport equipment developer PacketLight Networks Ltd. has introduced the PL-1000TE optical transponder platform, which is designed to support any service from 100 Mbps up to 16G Fibre Channel in the same unit. It enables eight low-latency, user-configurable, multirate ports to fit in a single 1U rack. The PL-1000TE CWDM/DWDM will support a variety of services, including Gigabit Ethernet (GbE), 10GbE, 1/2/4/8/10/16G Fibre Channel, CPRI, SD/HD-SDI, and STM-1/4/16/64 (OC-3/12/48/192). The transponder therefore enables service providers to start with a mix of low-rate services, then offer upgraded 10G and 16G services by adding the appropriate pluggable optical transceiver modules (SFPs, SFP+). This approach offers maximum scalability at minimum cost, PacketLight says. The transponder platform offers such features as remote management, performance monitoring, 1+1 protection, dual and pluggable power supply, and a pluggable fan unit as well as integrated optical modules such as an EDFA, optical switch, and mux/demux.“With its dynamic service combination and range of service types and protocols, PL-1000TE supports true scalability at minimal cost for current and future needs,” said Koby Reshef, PacketLight’s CEO. “Unique in its architecture for high- capacity, reliable, low-latency data center connectivity, PL-1000TE is an ideal solution for multiple CWDM/DWDM applications for carriers and service providers, dark fiber providers, universities, government entities and municipalities, and enterprises.”

M/A-COM Technology Solutions PIN limiter diode targets S-Band and L-Band
M/A-COM Technology Solutions Inc. has introduced the MADL-011008, a silicon PIN limiter diode designed for S- and L-Band medium signal applications such as low-noise amplifiers (LNAs), detectors, and mixers. The MADL-011008 is built to provide lower insertion loss at zero bias than competing alternatives. The device offers CW flat leakage of 16 dBm and spike leakage of 0.5 erg in a 1.2x1.5-mm PDFN. Operating between the 50-MHz to 4-GHz frequency range, typical frequency band insertion loss is 0.15 dB, input return loss is 20 dB, and output return loss is also 20 dB. Meanwhile, the diode limiter exhibits +40-dBm peak and +30-dBm CW power in that frequency range.“The MADL-011008 is ideally designed to provide lower insertion loss at zero bias for passive limiter control circuits,” said Paul Beasly, product manager at M/A-COM Tech. “Furthermore, the lower flat leakage power and fast signal recovery time make this limiter a very high performing small-size solution.”Production quantities and samples of MADL-011008 are available from stock.

KVH offers Japan's first 100 Gigabit Ethernet Service with Cyan
KVH, a Japan-based IT services and data center services provider for the Asia Pacific region, is using equipment from Cyan to roll out what the two parties assert is the first 100 Gigabit Ethernet service in Japan.Cyan has supplied elements of its Z-Series packet optical transport platforms equipped with the DTM-100G coherent transponder module. KVH successfully completed field trials of the new service earlier this year using the Cyan Z-Series packet-optical transport platform, XC-2800 2.8-Tbps multi-layer switch fabric, and the coherent transponder module.KVH plans to deploy the new services in several major Japanese markets with multiple service quality levels and at what it asserts is highly competitive prices. According to an announcement on KVH's website, the company also will use the 6500 Packet Optical Platform from Ciena Corp. (NASDAQ:CIEN) in parts of its network to support the new services roll out."As KVH has been experiencing overwhelming customer demand for higher-capacity network services, we are excited to be launching KVH 100 Gigabit Ethernet Service, and are proud to be offering this service as the first of its kind in Japan,” said Yoshiyuki Hamada, vice president, Systems & Technology of KVH. “We're looking forward to working with Cyan to deploy highly reliable, high-performance solutions to our customers as a neutral network services provider."According to Andy Wu, Cyan vice president of Sales for the Asia Pacific region, "KVH has long been recognized as a technology leader in Asia and their delivery of 100G services to major metropolitan areas throughout Japan is just the latest example of that leadership. Cyan is pleased to be able to leverage its compact, flexible, cost-effective Z-Series platform and advanced Blue Planet software-defined network (SDN) system to help KVH meet the demanding requirements of its customers."
