Kotura Launches Ultra VOA
MONTEREY PARK, Calif. -- Expanding the application space for silicon photonics, silicon photonics innovator Kotura, Inc. today announced a new Ultra Variable Optical Attenuator Module in a pluggable Small Form Package (SFP-VOA). The new product integrates an optical power monitor function to provide feedback to the Ultra VOA in a control loop design.Based upon silicon photonics, Kotura's Ultra VOAs have very fast response times, typically less than one microsecond. The high-speed performance enables functions such as signal modulation, transient suppression and fast power control in WDM agile networks. Highly reliable, Kotura VOAs have no moving parts and have logged more than one billion device hours in optical networks around the world."Customers like the option of an industry standard pluggable package," said Xavier Clairardin, vice president of product marketing at Kotura. "Our Ultra VOAs are already among the most widely used in the industry. The 20-pin SFP package means that designers can better utilize board space by moving the attenuation function to the front panel. Our new product meets the growing trend towards pluggable optics in telecommunications equipment designs."
AimValley Proposes TSoP Standard
HILVERSUM, Netherlands -- AimValley has published an IETF draft standard, disclosing the Transparent SDH/SONET over Packet (TSoP) technology. This circuit emulation method is applied in the TSoP Smart SFP™ module that was jointly developed by AimValley and OE?Solutions and which has recently been launched. The TSoP IETF draft standard is written in collaboration with experts from Alcatel?Lucent. The essence of the TSoP method is that an STM?N or OC?N client signal is transported completely transparent in a Pseudowire (PW) over a Packet Switched Network (PSN): The bits that are input on one edge of the PSN are exactly the same as the bits that are output on the other edge. This transparency extends to the timing properties of the client signal. Actually, to transport an STM?N/OC?N client signal transparently, only its bit rate is relevant to the PW and PSN layers. This implies that SONET/SDH differences disappear.Although circuit emulation techniques are routinely deployed in the network for a number of years, there was, until now, no method standardized for the emulation of complete STM?N or OC?N circuits in a transparent manner over MPLS and Ethernet packet networks. Alcatel?Lucent and AimValley have taken the initiative to close this gap by publishing an IETF draft standard that describes such a method in a document provisionally titled: draft-manhoudt-pwe3-tsop.
Solarflare Is VMware-Ready
IRVINE, Calif. -- Solarflare, a leader in application-intelligent 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) networking software and hardware, today announced that its SFN6122F Dual-Port 10G Ethernet SFP+ Onload Server Adapter has achieved VMware Ready™ status. This designation indicates that after a detailed validation process the Solarflare SFN6122F Server Adapter has achieved VMware’s highest level of endorsement, and can be found on the VMware Solution Exchange (VSX) at https://solutionexchange.vmware.com/store/products/solarflare-sfn6122f-dual-port-10g-ethernet-sfp-onload-server-adapter.“IT managers are looking to optimize cloud deployments, virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and virtual server infrastructure through server consolidation, increasing VM density, and other scale-out computing techniques,” said Mike Smith, VP / GM of host solutions at Solarflare “By using the Solarflare SFN6122F Dual-Port 10G Ethernet SFP+ Onload Server Adapter with VMware vSphere® 5.0, enterprises can remove I/O bottlenecks, and accelerate application performance in virtual environments that can lead to lower capital and operating costs.”“We are pleased that Solarflare and the SFN6122F Dual-Port 10G Ethernet SFP+ Onload Server Adapter qualifies for the VMware Ready™ logo, signifying to customers that it has met specific VMware integration and interoperability standards and it works effectively with VMware cloud infrastructure, which will speed time to value within customer environments.” said Sheryl Sage, director, Alliance Programs, VMware.
