Kotura Launches Ultra VOA
MONTEREY PARK, Calif. -- Expanding the application space for silicon photonics, silicon photonics innovator Kotura, Inc. today announced a new Ultra Variable Optical Attenuator Module in a pluggable Small Form Package (SFP-VOA). The new product integrates an optical power monitor function to provide feedback to the Ultra VOA in a control loop design.Based upon silicon photonics, Kotura's Ultra VOAs have very fast response times, typically less than one microsecond. The high-speed performance enables functions such as signal modulation, transient suppression and fast power control in WDM agile networks. Highly reliable, Kotura VOAs have no moving parts and have logged more than one billion device hours in optical networks around the world."Customers like the option of an industry standard pluggable package," said Xavier Clairardin, vice president of product marketing at Kotura. "Our Ultra VOAs are already among the most widely used in the industry. The 20-pin SFP package means that designers can better utilize board space by moving the attenuation function to the front panel. Our new product meets the growing trend towards pluggable optics in telecommunications equipment designs."
Solarflare Is VMware-Ready
IRVINE, Calif. -- Solarflare, a leader in application-intelligent 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) networking software and hardware, today announced that its SFN6122F Dual-Port 10G Ethernet SFP+ Onload Server Adapter has achieved VMware Ready™ status. This designation indicates that after a detailed validation process the Solarflare SFN6122F Server Adapter has achieved VMware’s highest level of endorsement, and can be found on the VMware Solution Exchange (VSX) at .“IT managers are looking to optimize cloud deployments, virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and virtual server infrastructure through server consolidation, increasing VM density, and other scale-out computing techniques,” said Mike Smith, VP / GM of host solutions at Solarflare “By using the Solarflare SFN6122F Dual-Port 10G Ethernet SFP+ Onload Server Adapter with VMware vSphere® 5.0, enterprises can remove I/O bottlenecks, and accelerate application performance in virtual environments that can lead to lower capital and operating costs.”“We are pleased that Solarflare and the SFN6122F Dual-Port 10G Ethernet SFP+ Onload Server Adapter qualifies for the VMware Ready™ logo, signifying to customers that it has met specific VMware integration and interoperability standards and it works effectively with VMware cloud infrastructure, which will speed time to value within customer environments.” said Sheryl Sage, director, Alliance Programs, VMware.
Transition Intros Fiber Switch
MINNEAPOLIS -- Transition Networks Inc., the switching and conversion technology expert, a wholly owned subsidiary of Communications Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: JCS), today announced the release of a 24-port managed all fiber switch. The SM24DPA offers Network Managers the ability to easily integrate fiber optics into their networks via (24) dual speed Small Form Factor Pluggable (SFPs) slots. A wide array of SFP optical transceivers are also available, offering a broad range of deployment options over multimode and/or single-mode fiber. The SM24DPA is suitable for both Metro Ethernet and office applications and offers IT managers a better means to manage this device through useful functions such as Quality of Service (QoS), Spanning Tree, and Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP). The SM24DPA all fiber switch also supports enhanced network security features including: SSH, SSL, and TACACS+ which guarantee users protected and secure connections to the network.Due to the staggering increase of users in recent years, the internet has begun to feel the pinch from a shortage of available IPV4 IP addresses. Based on this, Transition has built support for both IPV4 and IPV6 protocols into the SM24DPA . For network managers that are facing having their network upgraded from IPV4 to IPV6 or are operating a hybrid environment, the MIL-SM24DPA will help to future-proof their network with advanced IPV6 protocols."Our dual speed fiber switch provides network operators with a flexible solution for delivering extraordinary Ethernet services over a wide range of fiber facilities," said Kevin Faulds, Director of Product Management at Transition Networks. "We continue to introduce new products and solutions that enable our customers to extend the reach and maximize the value of their Ethernet infrastructure."
