JDSU T-BERD/MTS-4000 test platform adds CWDM optical spectrum analyzer
APRIL 27, 2010 -- JDSU has added the COSA-4055 CWDM optical spectrum analyzer (OSA) to its T-BERD/MTS-4000 Multiple Services Test Platform.According to JDSU, highlights of this new CWDM OSA include:offers the functionality and speed of a traditional OSA in a handheld size (that JDSU asserts is the smallest on the market) at “a fraction of the price”.offers intuitive operation and one-button auto-testing to eliminate the special training technicians typically need to perform CWDM testing, making it suitable for novices while keeping the full functionality that experts need.the small, rugged battery-operated OSA offers CWDM testing over the full wavelength range, a complete spectral trace, tabular results, and drift measurements. The new CWDM test capabilities of the T-BERD/MTS-4000 Test Platform are designed to help service providers install, maintain, and upgrade metro/access links and CWDM systems by providing accurate measurements of wavelengths and power levels for CWDM channels, as well as displaying the complete spectrum.TheT-BERD/MTS-4000 is a small, compact handheld test platform designed for all phases of the network life cycle, from the installation to the maintenance of access/FTTx networks and triple-play services.
AFL releases Noyes OFL280 FlexTester OTDR/loss test set
APRIL 21, 2010 -- AFL Telecommunications has introduced the Noyes OFL280 FlexTester, a hand-held, multifunction OTDR and loss test set designed to offer flexibility and value. The OFL280 FlexTester models combine ease-of-use and portability with an integrated singlemode 1310/1550-nm OTDR with PON-optimized and standard test modes, optical power meter, 1310/1550-nm laser source, and visual fault locator. Operating at 1310/1550 nm, the OFL280-100 is suitable for certifying point-to-point or FTTx PON fibers, allowing the detection of macro bends. The OFL280-101 adds 1625 nm, allowing certification of the L-band for transport use. Testing at 1490 nm is required by some network operators to certify FTTx PONs, making the OFL280-102 the best choice. The filtered, three wavelength OFL280-103 certifies dark fibers at 1310/1550 nm, fault-locates live FTTx fibers at 1625 nm and measures FTTx power levels at 1490 and 1550 nm from a single test port. All OFL280 FlexTester models can test through FTTx PON splitters, the company says.As with all Noyes OTDRs, test results may be saved as .SOR files that can be transferred to a PC for viewing, printing, and analysis using supplied Windows compatible software. The OFL280 FlexTester will replace comparable OFL250 and OFL280 models with no price increases, AFL Telecommunications adds.
NTT Communications chooses Sandvine traffic management tools for high-speed network deployment
FEBRUARY 1, 2010 Officials of broadband networking specialist NTT Communications Corp. in Tokyo needed traffic identification and management tools for a nationwide deployment on their high-speed network. They found their solution in the Policy Traffic Switch (PTS) from Sandvine Inc. in Waterloo, Ontario.Sandvine’s PTS platform provides a layer of intelligence into wireless and broadband networks, company officials say. Sandvine provides intelligent broadband network solutions for cable, DSL, FTTx, fixed wireless, and mobile operators."Our platform and applications were tried and tested to ensure they meet the usage demands of close to eight million subscribers on NTT Communications’s network," says Dave Caputo, Sandvine's president and chief executive officer.
