Tektronix DSA8300 digital signal analyzer supports Ethernet compliance testing via new modules
Tektronix, Inc. has introduced new optical modules for the DSA8300 Digital Signal Analyzer sampling oscilloscope that support optical compliance testing of Ethernet at speeds up to 100 Gbps.The new modules create a single mainframe for optical compliance test for Ethernet at speeds of 10G, 40G, and 100G (4x25) with up to 4X the throughput compared to alternative products on the market, superior native jitter, and an integrated clock recovery capabiliity, the company claims. The complete toolset eliminates the need for additional test equipment such as optical-to-electric converters.In addition, Tektronix is offering an updated jitter analysis feature with what the company claims is the industry's only bounded uncorrelated jitter (BUJ) separation techniques for better identification of crosstalk issues.The DSA8300 Digital Serial Analyzer is a modular system designed to provide excellent bandwidth and signal fidelity, high-performance TDR and interconnect analysis, and accurate analysis of signal impairments for current and emerging data communications technologies, the company says. With six module slots, the DSA8300 can simultaneously accommodate a clock recovery instrument, a precision phase reference module, and multiple electric and optical acquisition modules to provide a broad range of test configurations in one instrument. With all of the capability in one instrument, engineers can free up more space on their lab benches, reduce calibration expense, and interact with a single, familiar user interface."Engineers want a single test instrument for critical optical measurements," said Brian Reich, general manager, performance oscilloscopes, Tektronix. "This instrument set covers test support for all of the critical IEEE802.3 and Fibre Channel standards. And by providing the industry's first sampling oscilloscope solution with BUJ analysis, we are helping to address crosstalk test challenges faced by our customers on these higher data rates."The latest version of the IEEE Ethernet Optical and Electrical standards at 40 and 100 Gbps are 4-lane and 10-lane architectures. In the multi-lane architecture, a critical design challenge is to accurately identify lane-adjacent crosstalk, which typically shows up as BUJ. Until now, traditional jitter separation techniques like Dual-Dirac did not account for the non-periodic part of BUJ, and instead erroneously added it to random jitter, leading to inaccurate jitter estimates compared to results for a bit error ratio tester (BERT). The new capability for the DSA8300 ensures that crosstalk signal issues are measured and accounted for properly and accurately.The DSA8300, with supporting optical modules and updated toolset with BUJ support, is available now worldwide. Pricing for the DSA8300 Mainframes starts at $27,500 US MSRP and the Optical Sampling Modules begins at $31,500 US MSRP.
Phoenix Photonics expands Firebird family of polarization controllers
Phoenix Photonics, a UK-based test and measurement company, is introducing two new modules for its Firebird Instrumentation product range at OFC on March 6 - 8 in booth 2637.The Firebird range, launched in September last year with a programmable four-channel polarization controller, gives customers a “plug and play” capability to manage polarization issues in optical fiber, the company says."The polarization scrambling module, designed for integration into polarization test and measurement equipment, and the interface module for our EPC controller represent the next step along our roadmap to realize a series of high quality module and instrument products," explained Dean Giles, operations director of Phoenix Photonics.Using the same technology developed for the four-channel controller, the new compact polarization scrambler module is pre-programmed to provide random or scanned polarization for any input state requiring only a simple DC bias. The new EPC interface module enables the device to be controlled directly by computer.Phoenix will also display new components developed as part of the 7th Framework EU-funded project MODE-GAP:LP01 to LP11 tunable mechanical and in-fiber LPG mode converters.2-micron coupler and polarization control components.The MODE-GAP project seeks to provide Europe with a lead in the development of next-generation Internet infrastructure to address the potential capacity crunch. Combining the expertise of eight photonics partners, the project is developing transmission techniques based on specialist long-haul transmission fibers, and associated enabling technologies such as novel rare-earth doped optical amplifiers, transmitter and receiver components and data processing, techniques to increase the capacity of broadband networks.
Fibrecomm enhances capacity of Malaysian network with Ciena 40G
Ciena Corp. (NASDAQ: CIEN) says that Malaysian carrier Fibrecomm Network (M) Sdn. Bhd. is expanding its network with equipment from Ciena, including advanced optical technologies such as 40G, OTN switching, and directionless ROADMs. The carrier is the first in the region to deploy Optical Transport Network (OTN) switching and directionless ROADM technology, according to Ciena.Directionless ROADMs enable network operators to remotely direct and redirect wavelengths along any path in the network, enabling cost-effective, fast network restoration during link failures, and better allocation of network resources.Fibrecomm offers connectivity and application services to service providers, including wavelength, bandwidth, IP, Ethernet, colocation, and project management and consultancy services. Fibrecomm’s planned backbone network expansion spans across Peninsula Malaysia and East Malaysia - Sabah to connect the northern and southern portions of the network.Fibrecomm is deploying Ciena’s 6500 Packet-Optical Platform, which integrates coherent optics, automated OTN, packet and SONET/SDH switching, control plane, and unified network management to help network operators to scale, manage, and differentiate services. Fibrecomm will also deploy the 6100 Multiservice Optical Platform for aggregation of lower-speed SDH traffic.Project rollout and deployment of this network enhancement is being jointly managed by Fibrecomm and Formis, a regional Ciena BizConnect partner based in Malaysia. Deployment began in December and already includes several live network segments."Malaysia is experiencing a growing demand for capacity, driven by the rapid evolution of information and communication technology," said Ang Meng Hee, chief executive officer, Fibrecomm Network (M) Sdn Bhd.
