JGR Optics offers MS12001 mandrel-free cable assembly test system
JGR Optics Inc. has released the MS12001 Mandrel-Free Cable Assembly Test System. The system includes the MS12 Mandrel-Free IL/RL Test Module Series, designed to provide accurate insertion loss and reflectance measurements with enough sensitivity to enable mandrel-free reflectance measurements down to -80 dB on cable lengths as short as 1 meter. The test and measurement system also includes the MS7 Series of modular optical switches and a new family of modular platforms, the MS05P, MS10P, and MS10E.The MS12 module series includes three singlemode modules for testing at 1310 nm, 1490 nm, 1550 nm, and 1625nm; two multimode modules for testing at 850 nm and 1300 nm; and a loss meter module for high-throughput applications. The MS12001 system’s fully automated software and the customizable modular architecture enable users to configure different combinations to design a test system that will fit current needs, while protecting their investment.The MS12001 software and the MS12 modules are fully compatible with EXFO’s IQS-12001B Cable Assembly and Component Test System, allowing existing customers to upgrade their systems and exchange modules from one system to another.“We have been offering insertion loss and reflectance measurement solutions for a few years with the BR5, MBR5, and MLT backreflection and loss meters, but the release of the MS12001 Mandrel-Free Cable Assembly Test System really allows us to tailor the perfect solution for our customers, no matter what their requirements are” said Pierre Leonard, President and CEO of JGR.
Tektronix 30+ GHz oscilloscope development employs 8HP SiGe technology, exceeds target specs
ASICs designed in IBM's 8HP silicon germanium (SiGe) BiCMOS Specialty Foundry technology are exceeding target specifications for a new performance oscilloscope from Tektronix designed to be capable of greater than 30-GHz bandwidth across multiple channels, while minimizing the noise found in older chip sets.The new Tektronix oscilloscope platform is being designed to meet electronic designers' needs for more accurate characterization of high-speed serial data beyond 10 Gbps (Gigabits per second) and enhance optical modulation analysis of 100GbE (Gigabit Ethernet), where complex signaling requires accurate bit capture."This represents our first commercial integration of 8HP technology and clearly shows the latest generation of SiGe is delivering significant performance differentiation to the industry's most demanding oscilloscope applications. This year, we will be delivering a new series of performance oscilloscopes with the lowest noise and class-leading signal acquisition performance across multiple channels," says Roy Siegel, general manager, Oscilloscopes, Tektronix. "IBM's SiGe technology has long delivered the performance and reliability our customers demand and as our lab demonstration indicates, this will continue well into the future."IBM's 8HP technology, a 130-nanometer (nm) SiGe bipolar complementary metal oxide semiconductor (BiCMOS) process, offers 2X performance over the previous generation, reveals a company representative. SiGe technology leverages reliable, mature fabrication processes associated with the 50-year-old silicon industry, but with performance levels comparable to that of exotic materials such as Indium Phosphide (InP) and Gallium Arsenide (GaAs), the representative adds. SiGe BiCMOS provides access to high-speed bipolar transistors on the same die as standard CMOS, marrying performance with large-scale integration.Initial Tektronix product deployments using 8HP SiGe technology are expected later this year.
Yenista adds variable attenuator and optical switch modules to OSICS platform
Fiber-optic test and measurement equipment vendor Yenista Optics has expanded its flagship OSICS platform with new variable attenuator and optical switch modules. The additional functionality the new modules add to OSICS can be controlled though a single interface.OSICS is an eight-module rack system that can be configured with DFB lasers or a variety of tunable lasers covering the 1260 nm to 1650 nm wavelength bands.The “OSICS ATN” variable attenuator module is designed to provide:up to 60 dB attenuation with 0.1-dB resolution.operation over 1260 to 1650 nm.optical power handling up to 2 W.The power handling abilities are designed to ensure compatibility with “nearly all” power control requirements, even in high channel count DWDM applications, according to Yenista. The module is available in both singlemode fiber and polarization maintaining fiber configurations.The “OSICS SWT” singlemode optical switch modules are available as 1x1 (shutter), 1x2, 1x4, and 2x2 types. The modules offer low insertion loss, low PDL, a fast switching time, and a very repeatable operation, Yenista asserts. The switches are also available as polarization maintaining fiber version with high PER.“The OSICS platform has been extremely successful with customers using it in both research and production environments. Our strategy is to build on this success by providing new modules, broadening the range of applications, whilst ensuring compatibility with older OSICS racks to allow customers to add new functionality to their existing systems” said CEO Michiel Van Der Keur.
