Europe's first TWDM-PON technology existing network test

Alcatel-Lucent and Vodafone recently launched Europe's first live network trial TWDM-PON ultra-broadband access technology, Vodafone plans to upgrade its network performance to meet network data traffic and mobile backhaul traffic growing demand.

With Alcatel-Lucent's TWDM-PON (time-division and wavelength division multiplexing passive optical network) technology, Vodafone can achieve up to 40 Gbps (single wavelength 10Gbps rate) of bandwidth on its existing fiber optic network infrastructure, to seamless delivery of end-user commercial broadband services. The new technology will deliver new data services, Vodafone family, and meet the growing demand for bandwidth capacity and pave the way. Vodafone has 446 million mobile users worldwide, with the development of 4G mobile networks accelerates, the bandwidth needs of users is growing, TWDM-PON technology will meet the strategic needs of users play an important role in Vodafone.

The existing network test is another important progress following the earlier successful test laboratory located in Vigo, Spain, Vodafone, both sides gained. In laboratory tests carried out in Spain, Alcatel-Lucent's TWDM-PON technology to achieve the dual-wavelength transmission rate of up to 20Gbps.
