Pacnet plans 100G, OTN upgrade for EAC-C2C subsea network
Asia-Pacific service provider Pacnet says it plans to deploy an optical mesh network with 100-Gbps technology and integrated Optical Transport Network (OTN) switching across its subsea fiber-optic cable network EAC-C2C."With the rapid intra-Asia digital content growth continuing to fuel soaring bandwidth demands in the region, this latest initiative is a significant step in strengthening our network services to handle the continued growth of Internet traffic," said Andy Lumsden, chief technology officer of Pacnet. "We are committed to making our infrastructure more agile and efficient, providing a competitive edge for our customers in a rapidly evolving market."Enabling greater efficiency and capacity management flexibility, the new backbone integrating subsea fiber-optic network infrastructure and terrestrial backhaul links will support pure packet transport technology in the optical core, in addition to the DWDM/SDH technologies currently used by the existing core network. The upgrades are scheduled to begin in early 2013."The increase in network capacity will significantly improve the efficiency of data transmission across regional network routes and allow Pacnet to extend and expand its Carrier Ethernet and virtual private-line service capabilities. The upgraded core network will also provide for high-bandwidth connections with speeds up to 100GbE demanded by large carrier and enterprise customers," said Lumsden.EAC-C2C is a fiber-optic submarine cable network in Asia, spanning 36,800 km with cable landing stations throughout the region including Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Taiwan, Korea, the Philippines, and China. With multiple landing points in most locations, Pacnet says the EAC-C2C provides customers with greater route diversity.

CoreSite to build new data center in Secaucus, NJ
CoreSite Realty Corp. (NYSE: COR), a provider of data center campuses and the CoreSite Mesh, which enables interconnected communities of service providers and enterprises, says it plans to develop of a new data center campus in Secaucus, NJ.CoreSite is under contract to acquire a 280,000 square-foot building, which will be referred to as NY2, on 10 acres of land in Secaucus, New Jersey. In addition to NY2, the land site will support additional data center development as market demand warrants.CoreSite anticipates closing on the acquisition in early February and beginning construction to convert the existing building to data center specifications in Q1 2013. Capacity should become available in Q4 2013. CoreSite expects to invest $65 million to acquire the facility, redevelop the powered shell, and complete the initial phase of inventory consisting of 65,000 square feet."CoreSite's entry into Secaucus is an important step in the execution of our strategy to extend our US platform supporting latency-sensitive customer applications in network-dense, cloud-enabled data center campuses," said Tom Ray, president and chief executive officer, CoreSite. "Our New York campus is designed to meet performance-sensitive customer requirements supported by our location at the nexus of robust, protected, low-latency network rings serving Manhattan as well as global cable routes to Chicago, Frankfurt, London, and Brazil. Additionally, customers are able to connect directly to service nodes for Amazon Web Services Direct Connect."Three network service providers have pre-committed to serve NY2: Sidera Networks, Zayo, and Seaborn Networks, each of which provides high-performance network support to the financial services, cloud, and network communities."The new CoreSite data center in New Jersey fits perfectly with Sidera's growth strategy," said Clint Heiden, president, Sidera Networks (which is in the process of merging with Lightower Networks). "This expansion gives CoreSite customers immediate access to over 40 financial exchanges and the Sidera Xtreme Ultra-Low Latency Network.""We are pleased to bring Zayo's Bandwidth Infrastructure services, including dark fiber, wavelengths, Ethernet, and IP services, into CoreSite's new NY2 facility," said Glenn Russo, EVP of corporate strategy and development, Zayo. "The Zayo and CoreSite relationship continues to expand connectivity for current and future customers of both companies.""NY2 is an integral part of Seaborn Networks' plan for CoreSite to serve as turnkey backhaul provider for the US landing of Seabras-1, our U.S.-Brazil submarine cable with a planned ready for service date of Q1, 2015," said Larry Schwartz, CEO, Seaborn Networks.CoreSite intends to ensure the availability of high-capacity lit services as well as a robust dark-fiber links between NY2 and CoreSite's NY1 location at 32 Avenue of the Americas in Manhattan. The company says the seamless connection between NY1 and NY2 will provide distributed direct-connect access to the CoreSite Mesh, creating one of the most comprehensive cloud communities in the greater New York area and immediately bringing together over 75 leading network service providers as well as public, private, and hybrid cloud providers.Digital content providers will also benefit from CoreSite's reliable infrastructure and scalable campus that can support continued growth in media consumption. Furthermore, the network providers in the new NY2 location will enable low latency connectivity within and among the fastest routes available to the financial services community. The new Secaucus data center will be the sixteenth data center in CoreSite's national platform, which spans nine US markets and includes more than 275 carriers and service providers and more than 15,000 interconnections.

Transmode ROADMs choice for SpringNet fiber-optic network
SpringNet, a division of City Utilities of Springfield, MO that provides metro Ethernet services, has upgraded its fiber-optic network using Transmode's TM-Series platform with its ROADM-based Flexible Optical Networking technology. The TM Series has been deployed over SpringNet’s 428-route-mile optical network in a ring configuration. It will support 40 channels per fiber. The network carries a mix of OC-12, OC-48, Fibre Channel, Gigabit Ethernet, and 10 Gigabit Ethernet traffic."Our aim is to deliver flexible, scalable and innovative services to our customers both quickly and efficiently. To do this we needed to replace our existing network," said Chris Yates, operations and engineering manager at SpringNet. "The previous network required extensive manual intervention to deploy new services and added complexity and long-term maintenance costs. Our need was for an easily managed and cost-efficient network. The new ROADM network saves time and resources and makes it easier to deploy new services efficiently as we can now add/drop any wavelength from and to any port from our network operations center."In addition to the TM-Series optical transport systems, SpringNet has deployed Transmode's Enlighten multi-layer management suite. The suite is designed to make provisioning and maintenance easier to perform while providing real-time views of the network, including power levels and circuit design.
