ITT Industries, Cannon develops electrical SFP transceiver for STM-1e
The hot-pluggable module is fully interchangeable with STM-1 optical SFP modules, delivering system solution providers with instant STM-1 electrical support. Any system that already supports STM-1 optical can now support STM-1 electrical by using the SFP-155E. Additionally, a single card can now support both optical and electrical STM-1 interfaces, reducing system capital and operating costs. The SFP-155E enables systems designers to reduce time-to-market at a lower cost, and with full flexibility. Serial identification (EEPROM) in accordance with the SFP MSA is available. The electrical interface is fully compliant with telecom ITU-T G.703 (ES1) recommendations and can be connected using standard DIN 1.0/2.3 75-ohm cable connectors. The SFP-155E has been designed under a development partnership agreement between ITT Industries, Cannon and AimBridges. Under the terms of this agreement ITT Industries, Cannon will market and distribute the SFP-155E

Source Photonics launches dual-rate 10-/1-Gbps SFP+ transceivers
The dual rate SFP+ family of products includes an 850-nm multimode transceiver that is fully compliant with both IEEE 802.3 10GBASE-SR and 1000BASE-SX Ethernet standards. Also included in the family is a 1310-nm singlemode transceiver, which is fully compliant with both the 10GBASE-LR and 1000BASE-LX Ethernet Physical Medium Dependants or PMDs. The modules are SFF-8431 SFP+ MSA-compliant and provide selectable rate capability via the MSA rate-select pins."As data centers and enterprises strive to future proof their infrastructures while maximizing their current networks, the flexibility of true dual-rate compliant interfaces eases the transition to 10-Gbps systems," reports Tripper Huang, director of product development at Source Photonics. "Our cost-effective PMD allows equipment to connect to legacy 1-Gbps infrastructure as well as 10-Gbps systems, giving the end-customer full forward and backward compatibility," he says. The dual-rate SFP+ transceivers complement Source Photonics' existing portfolio of 10-Gbps products that includes SFP+ and XFP transceivers, and 300-pin transponders. The dual-rate SFP+ products are currently in sampling stage and will be available in volume in the first quarter of calendar year 2009.

OCP adds DWDM, supervisory channel SFP transceivers
"With the expansion of the DWDM SFP product portfolio, OCP is well positioned to support the growing WDM-based metro market. We are providing a comprehensive DWDM product line with 80-km, 120-km, 180-km, and 200-km product options now available," said Kirk Bovill, director of marketing at OCP, regarding the first announcement.OCP's "TRPW48" DWDM product line is compliant with the G.692 ITU-T standard, offering 44 wavelengths on 100-GHz C-Band spacing with an optical link budget of 26 dB. The DFB lasers used in these SFP transceivers feature an integrated optical isolator for stable transmitter operation under the varying back-reflection conditions that exist in installed cable plants. The modules are designed for multi-rate applications, supporting data rates ranging from 2.67 Gbits/sec down to 125 Mbits/sec. The DDM functionality adheres to the SFP DWDM MSA, enabling the end-user to monitor key areas in the performance of the SFP transceiver: internal temperature, DC supply voltage, transmitter bias current, transmitter output power, receive optical signal level, laser wavelength, and TEC current. Integrated DDM functionality also incorporates warnings and alarms to monitor these parameters.Meanwhile, the Optical Supervisory Channel SFP transceiver is designed for FE/OC3/STM-1, low-speed 50-155 Mbd, OSC applications for use in WDM systems."This device provides an excellent optical link budget of 44 dB using a 1510-nm DFB and a high-performance APD receiver. We are well positioned to support the growing WDM-based market and this device provides a flexible, easy to use and reliable interface for optical supervisory channel applications in WDM systems in a pluggable format," said Bovill. The "TRPA03E2ZB" Optical Supervisory Channel SFP transceiver provides integrated digital diagnostics monitoring functionality via an I2C serial interface as described in the MSA document, SFF-8472 (Rev 9.4). The DFB laser used in this SFP transceiver features an integrated optical isolator for stable transmitter operation under the varying back-reflection conditions that exist in installed cable plants.
