Multiplex XFP optical transceivers withstand industrial temperatures
Multiplex Inc. has introduced CWDM and DWDM XFP optical transceiver modules for industrial temperature applications. The XFP transceivers operate within a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C with wavelength stability to +/-12.5 GHz for 100-GHz systems. The XFP optical modules, which comply with version 4.5 of the XFP MSA as well as RoHS specifications, are designed to consume less than 3.5 W. They will operate from 9.95 to 11.1 Gbps for SONET/SDH, 10-Gigabit Ethernet, 10-Gigabit Fibre Channel, and G.707 OTN applications."The Extended Temperature XFP supplements Multiplex's growing transponder and transceiver portfolio which includes SFP, XFP, and 300-pin MSA optical modules. Providing a full complement of DWDM and CWDM interfaces will enable our customers to optimize network designs for the appropriate price/performance point for any given application through our commitment to innovate and bring new viable solutions to the market," said Mike Robertson, sales director at Multiplex.

Champion ONE offers Next Day Dense Wave DWDM 10G XFP transceivers
Third-party optical transceiver company Champion ONE has announced the immediate availability of its new Next Day Dense Wave (NDDW) 10G XFP optical transceiver product line. As the name implies, the NDDW line features next-day delivery from Champion ONE, which the company says enables service providers to turn up DWDM services quickly, rather than waiting 8 to 12 weeks for transceivers to be delivered. The NDDW XFP MSA compliant modules are available in all of the standard ITU C-Band 50-GHz wavelengths. (While the transceivers are tunable, Champion ONE will deliver each module tuned to the requested wavelength. This helps customers who don’t have their own tuning equipment, according to a company source.) Targeted at metro Ethernet, mobile backhaul, and long-haul applications, the transceivers will support 10-Gigabit Ethernet transmission for LAN and WAN, SONET OC-192, and 10G Fibre Channel. They also support FEC (if enabled by the port). The hot-pluggable XFP transceivers also feature digital diagnostics (DD), also known as digital optical monitoring (DOM). Network operators therefore can monitor real-time parameters of the XFPs, such as optical output power, optical input power, temperature, laser bias current, and transceiver supply voltage.“Being able to turn up a DWDM circuit in a timely manner is a huge problem for service providers and we wanted to help solve that problem,” said Bob Cromleigh, Champion ONE director of sales. “As bandwidth demand continues to grow at an exponential rate and 10-Gbps services accelerate, the build out of DWDM networks is a trend that we don’t see slowing down anytime soon. As a result, our innovative NDDW solution will help our customers meet their growth targets, while allowing them to maintain the QoS standard that their customers have come to expect.”Champion ONE says it also plans to add SFP+ transceivers to its NDDW family in the near future.

Timbercon announces XFP electrical loopback
The Timbercon EL-10-07001 XFP electrical loopback is used for testing XFP transceiver ports in host/system boards. By substituting for a full-featured XFP transceiver, the electrical loopback provides a cost effective method for XFP port testing, Timbercon asserts. The EL-10-07001 is packaged in a standard MSA housing compatible with all XFP ports. Transmit data from the host is electrically routed (internal to the loopback module) to the receive data outputs and back to the host. The electrical loopback path is designed using an XFP signal conditioner IC to ensure signal integrity over 300 mm of enhanced FR4 or 200 mm of standard FR4 as required by the XFP MSA section 2.1. Since the loopback module does not contain laser diodes, photodiodes, laser driver, or transimpedance amplifier chips it provides an economical way to exercise XFP ports during R&D validation, production testing, and field testing, Timbercon says.In addition to the electrical loopback function, the EL-10-07001 provides an MSA standard 2-wire serial communication interface to digital diagnostics, pre-loaded EEPROM memory maps (standard and customized), and XFP power level 3 loading of all four XFP voltage supplies (+1.8 V, +3.3 V, +5.0 V, and -5.2 V).The XFP loopback contains two LEDs to enable quick and visible performance indication. The green LED is illuminated when the module is fully plugged in and has power. The amber LED is illuminated when the module is receiving valid data traffic. Internally this function is generated by the CDR/signal conditioner."After great success with our SFP, HSSDC, and RJ-232 electrical loopbacks, XFP is the next logical step for Timbercon's electrical loopback product line with the SFP+ next on our horizon." said Justin Redd, director of engineering.
