FOP releases MPO loopback assemblies
Alliance Fiber Optic Products, Inc. (AFOP) says its new line of MPO fiber-optic loopback assemblies offer an effective way to test transmitter capability and receiver sensitivity of network equipment, particularly for telecom and datacom requirements.Designed for burn-in and testing of MPO network components and systems, AFOP’s MPO loopback assemblies are available in a compact housing for high-density use and are available with or without attenuation.Standard products include a female MPO interface with 8-fiber QSFP, 12-fiber or 24-fiber, SM or MM ferrules. The company says its streamlined, ruggedized housing design provides excellent stability and reliability.

InnoLight introduces 40G QSFP+ transceiver module family
InnoLight Technology Corp., a supplier of high-speed optical transceivers, has announced the production release of its 40G QSFP+ transceiver family. As bandwidth demand continues to escalate, the communication industry needs to upgrade its networks from 10G to 40G and then 100G. The IEEE 802.3ba 40GBase-SR4, -LR4, and the forthcoming -ER4 in a QSFP+ form factor offer the latest technology to support bandwidth expansion, InnoLight asserts.InnoLight’s 40G QSFP+ product offering includes: 40G QSFP+ AOC, P/N TF-QQxxx-N00, up to 100-m OM3 multimode fiber (MMF) transmission  40G QSFP+ SR4, P/N: TR-QQ85S-N00, up to 300-m OM3 MMF transmission  40G QSFP+ IR4, P/N: TR-QQ13P-N00, up to 2-km singlemode fiber (SMF) transmission  40G QSFP+LR4, P/N: TR-QQ13L-N00, up to 10-km SMF transmission. In addition, InnoLight says it will introduce a 40G QSFP+ER4 version with transmission up to 40 km in 4Q 2012.“QSFP+ is emerging as the preferred form factor for next-generation 40G networks following the wide adoption of the SFP+ form factor in 10G,” said Osa Mok, chief marketing officer of InnoLight. “InnoLight is determined to drive this 40G QSFP+ transformation with a 4X bandwidth at a 2.5X in size, power, and cost versus 10G SFP+.”The QSFP+AOC, SR4, IR4, and LR4 optical modules are ready for delivery in quantity now.

Frontier has broadband expansion plans for CAF money
Frontier Communications (NASDAQ:FTR) says it is accelerating plans to deploy broadband services to its rural subscribers thanks to the acceptance of $71.9 million from the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Connect America Fund (CAF).The FCC established the CAF to accelerate broadband build-out to the 18 million Americans living in rural areas who currently have no access to robust broadband infrastructure (see “FCC Chairman Genachowski unwraps USF overhaul plans”).By accepting this funding, Frontier has pledged to provide broadband service to an additional 92,876 households covering more than half of the 27 states it serves, ensuring rural customers in states such as Michigan, Oregon, Washington, and West Virginia have access to broadband connectivity.“The FCC’s Connect America Fund offers Frontier additional resources to drive broadband penetration to rural markets that are hungry for access,” said Kathleen Quinn Abernathy, executive vice president of external affairs for Frontier Communications.“The CAF program directly supports broadband infrastructure, a critical first step to offering services to the high-cost, rural parts of our nation. This support will supplement the more than $1.5 billion of private investment made by Frontier over the last two years to deploy an advanced communications network to rural America,” Abernathy added.Nationally, Frontier provides broadband to nearly 80% of households within its territories. Frontier says it will continue to focus on broadband expansion while boosting broadband speeds throughout its network.
