FOLAN launches TERAOPTIC range of optical termination boxes
French cabling and connectivity specialist FOLAN has launched a new range of optical termination boxes. The products are part of the TERAOPTIC branded product family of building cabling products aimed at FTTH applications.FOLAN says the optical termination boxes have been designed by its engineering team in France to be easy to install, with the aim of saving time during installation. The boxes are available in different configurations from 1 to 4 fibers to meet customer requirements. They are attractive, both in terms design and price, the company claims. "Our optical termination boxes are easy to connect thanks to a color locating area and eye protection against laser beams," the company said. "Their modern design will go well with new or existing buildings.  The only thing you have to do is to choose your optical termination box configurations: provided pre-cabled or not, with an unwinding machine, etc."The TERAOPTIC product range also includes customer patch cords, riser boxes, optical distribution and connection boxes, trunk cables, and fiber-optic cables.

Luxtera adds $21.7 million in Series C, new board member
Silicon CMOS photonics company Luxtera says it has closed $21.7 million in Series C funding. It also has added Martin Colombatto to its board of directors. The latest funding round included inside investment from NEA, August Capital, Sevin Rosen, Funds, and Lux Capital. New investors include Tokyo Electron and a “personal investment” from a mystery source the company would describe only as “an industry titan.”Colombatto arrives on the Luxtera board having most recently served as the CEO and president of Staccato Communications, a San Diego-based Ultra Wide Band (UWB)/wireless USB company. Prior to Staccato, Colombatto served as the vice president and general manager of Broadcom’s Networking Business Unit.“This is an exciting time for Luxtera and I am honored to be joining an organization that is seeding technology poised to be as disruptive as the mass production of CMOS photonics in silicon,” said Colombatto. “There is incredible talent at Luxtera and I look forward to helping to shape this defining industry transition as silicon CMOS photonics overcomes the limitations of copper interconnect.”The funding announcement came shortly after Cisco announced its plans to acquire a Luxtera competitor, Lightwire (see “Cisco to acquire CMOS silicon photonics firm Lightwire”). Unlike Lightwire, however, Luxtera has had success bringing products to market. In fact, it announced last week that it has shipped a million channels worth of silicon CMOS photonics products (see “Luxtera ships one-millionth silicon CMOS photonics-enabled 10G channel”).

CoAdna to offer Gen-2 LightFlow ROADM subsystems
CoAdna Photonics, Inc. says it plans to release a new line of ROADM subsystems based on a new liquid crystal (LC) technology platform, the Gen-2 LightFlow. Gen-2 includes a new ASIC chip and finer LC cells in a smaller form factor. It retains the same level of power consumption, which CoAdna asserts is the lowest available. The company will use the Gen-2 LightFlow technology to offer twin wavelength-selective switch (WSS) capabilities and 12.5-GHz of flexible bandwidth granularity. The technology can be applied to new products for next-generation ROADMs and as drop-in upgrades for existing products.New products on the drawing board with the Gen-2 technology include:Flexible bandwidth 1xN WSS: A drop-in upgrade of existing WSS products with identical mechanical and electrical interfaces, CoAdna says. Port count N can be up to 23, and bandwidth granularity is at 12.5 GHz.Twin 1xN WSS: This product is designed to provide a more compact and cost-effective option for route-and-select architectures, in which a pair of WSS modules is used for future higher data rate colorless/directionless/contentionless/flexible-grid ROADM networks. CoAdna will highlight this device in its booth at the upcoming OFC/NFOEC in Los Angeles next month.Twin BXC: Two compact multicast switches in one package for high-density CDC add/drop applications.CoAdna will begin to roll out these products in the second half of this year, according to a company source.“CoAdna strives to provide complete ROADM solutions to our customers. We have been committed and focused on continuing product innovations to address future network needs,” said Dr. Jack Kelly, CTO of CoAdna. “With this second-generation platform, we will be able to supply products with future-proof features, and at the same time, provide our customers a smooth upgrade path for existing ROADM systems.”
