Discovery Semiconductors adds 25G CDR to Lab Buddy via Gennum chips
Discovery Semiconductors, Inc. says it has integrated Gennum Corp.’s 25G clock data recovery (CDR) technology into its 25-Gbaud Lab Buddy product line for upcoming 100-Gbps datacom and telecom applications. The CDR is frequency agile (operating from 24.8 through 28.3 Gbps), jitter tolerant, and has a user programmable output swing from 200 mV to 1200 mV, according to Discovery Semiconductors. The optical receiver can cover a wavelength range from 800 nm to 1650 nm for singlemode or multimode fiber applications.Typical applications include active optical cables for Fibre Channel and InfiniBand, as well as testing components and transponders used in telecom and datacom.Said Abhay Joshi, president and CEO of Discovery Semiconductors, “The marrying of a world-class optical receiver and CDR in Discovery’s Lab Buddy aims to optimize test time by simplifying measurements and improving productivity. This is accomplished through the combination of the O/E and CDR functions by providing both the optical receiver’s linear output, as well as the recovered clock and data outputs simultaneously to your scope or BERA.”"We developed our 25G CDRs for next-generation 100GbE-LR4, ER4 and OTU4 optical modules," added Ed Frlan, senior system architect in Gennum's Mixed Signal & Optical Products Division. "We are very pleased that Discovery Semiconductors has selected the GN2426 CDR for its 25G Lab Buddy instrumentation."Discovery will run a live demonstration of the 25G CDR Lab Buddy at next month’s OFC/NFOEC conference in Los Angeles, CA, booth #2501.

Hillton adds Class C+ optics to GPON transceiver line
Shenzhen-based optical component and subsystems supplier Hillton Optoelectronics Co., Ltd. says it has added transceivers with Class C+ optics to its line of GPON transceivers.GPON transceivers with Class C+ optics offer greater transmission distances than those with Class B+ optics, which enables service providers to reach more customers at a reduced cost."The availability of Class C+ transceivers demonstrates our commitment to the PON transceiver market," said Wenqin Zhong, chairman and CEO of Hillton. "By leveraging both the rapid growth of the Chinese PON market and our own vertically integrated manufacturing model, Hillton continues to lead the way in reducing the cost of PON transceivers while keeping pace with the industry’s latest innovation."Hillton will display the new GPON transceivers, along with its other fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) transceiver products and transceiver product lines for other applications at the OFC/NFOEC Exposition, March 6-8, at booth 720.

10G-EPON target of DFB-LD and APD from Mitsubishi Electric
Mitsubishi Electric Corp. has introduced the ML7xx42 distributed feedback laser diode (DFB-LD) and the PD8xx24 avalanche photodiode (APD) for use in optical network units (ONUs) of symmetric 10-Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network (10G-EPON) applications. The ML7xx42 DFB-LD incorporates an AlGaInAs active layer that provides 10 mW of output power under low operating current even in high-temperature conditions, Mitsubishi says. The laser diode uses an improved modulation bandwidth to perform smoothly at 10 Gbps. The DFB-LD is housed in a TO-CAN package with a diameter of 4.8 mm and is equipped with an aspherical lens cap to provide a high coupling efficiency. The ML7xx42 has its light emission peak at 1270 nm; the output power is 10 mW at operating currents of less than 70mA. It is designed for the operating temperature range from -5 to +75°C.Meanwhile, the APD leverages AlInAs for its multiplication layer. This enables what Mitsubishi asserts is an industry-leading sensitivity of typically 31.5 dBm. Packaged in a 5.4-mm TO-CAN with a ball lens cap, the PD8xx24 operates in the 1570-nm wavelength band and has an APD responsivity of typically 0.8 A/W, along with a bandwidth of typically 6.5 GHz.
