Tektronix offers SFP+ automated test and debug via DP0/DSA/MSO70000 Series oscilloscopes
Tektronix Inc. has introduced what it asserts is the first comprehensive automated test and debug offering for SFF-8431, SFP+ PHY, and SFP+ Direct Attach Cable Specifications "10GSFP+CU" Measurements. The new TEKEXP SFP-TX option for Tektronix’s DPO/DSA/MSO70000 Series oscilloscopes are designed to help users easily select measurements for SFF-8431 SFP+ testing and perform all measurements with a single button click.All masks, limits, and measurement parameters are automatically configured, says Tektronix. Users also can change selected measurements and measurement configurations using a new standard-specific user interface. The automated measurements are designed to help engineers efficiently meet SFP+ compliance requirements and generate detailed reports. Users also can change test limits for advanced margin and performance testing, according to Tektronix.Tektronix also has added six new measurements:VMA.Rise Time.Tx-Qsq.DDPWS.Fall Time.Uncorrelated Jitter (UJ).Setup files are provided based on different signal types such as 8180, PRBS9, and PRBS 31. Signal-specific setup files enable users to perform measurements on different signal types or go into analysis and debug mode, Tektronix says."The dramatic growth in bandwidth requirements and the increasing worldwide use of high-performance servers is leading to an expanding need for 10-Gigabit Ethernet and in turn new connectivity options based on SFP+," said Roy Siegel, general manager, oscilloscopes, Tektronix. "By offering the industry's first automated and debug solution for validating SFF-8431 SFP+ devices, Tektronix helps make it easier for companies to bring new and innovative SFP+ offerings to market with assurance their products will conform to specifications and deliver optimum performance and reliability." SFP-TX is available for download now from www.tektronix.com and is designed to run on Tektronix DPO/DSA/MSO oscilloscopes with 16-GHz bandwidth and above.

Centellax unveils 17-Gbps stressed serial BERT for 16x Fibre Channel and 14-Gbps InfiniBand FDR
 Centellax says it has released the model #SSB17 3- to 17-Gbps stressed serial BERT for testing to 16x Fibre Channel (16GFC) and 14G InfiniBand FDR standards. The SSB17 offers the highest performance for compliance verification at rates between 3 and 17 Gbps, Centallax asserts.The SSB17 system comprises a serial BERT controller (SSB16000 or SSB16000J) and full-rate pattern generator (PG17) and error detector (ED17) remote mountable heads. Users can place the pattern generation and error detection directly next to the device under test (DUT), which obviates the need for long cabling and their associated loss.Centellax says it has built all of the standard patterns used for Fibre Channel and InfiniBand into the system. Programmable patterns up to 8-Mb in length also can be created and downloaded into the remote heads using the complementary Signal Integrity Studio analysis program.According to Steve Sekel, vice president of product management at Centellax, the system offers eye quality that features flat rails with very little ripple, as well as fast rise and fall times with minimal overshoot. “Along with the eye quality, we have a wide range of amplitude setting ability which allows directly testing receiver sensitivity without the need for switching in external attenuators,” he said. “Plus, our affordable price point provides a solution to cost-sensitive users who, until now, were considering work arounds.”

Phoenix Photonics to debut multi-channel polarization controller at ECOC 2011
Phoenix Photonics of the UK says it plans to unveil a new multi-channel “plug and play” polarization controller at ECOC, which will be held in Geneva starting September 18. The new polarization controller will support polarization management in up to four independent channels simultaneously, according to the company.The polarization controller will serve as the first product in Phoenix Photonics’ Firebird line of instrumentation equipment. It will leverage the company’s all-fiber, three-waveplate polarization controller/scanner technology.Phoenix says that features of the polarization controller will include:Microprocessor-based control of each individual waveplate.PC interface, with USB, RS-232, and GPIB and Ethernet as options.All-fiber technology.Programmable waveforms, including sine, square, ramp, and user-defined.Random scrambling option.Optional channel count up to four.Benchtop or 19" rack models.Front-panel manual control option"With Firebird, we have responded to customer requests to provide plug-and-play instruments incorporating the already-successful Phoenix components, and our modular approach will give us the flexibility to provide further developments as we move forward," said Phoenix Photonics CEO Dr Ian Giles.
